Last week Apple announced and released a lot of stuff. One thing they released was a Developer Preview of OS X 10.9 Mavericks. I am sure many developers and enthusiasts want to try this new release without installing it on their productive Mac systems. And this exactly is one of the many reasons why you should use VMware Fusion. Just run it inside a VM.
Unfortunately installing OS X 10.9 directly from the installer app isn’t working with VMware Fusion 5.0.3 or the Fusion Technology Preview from May 2013. The easiest way it get OS X Mavericks up and running within Fusion is to install OS X 10.8 and then upgrade it to 10.9 using the installer app.
There is also another way of installing OS X 10.9 on VMware Fusion which can be found on Pastebin. While I have tested this solution I found it much more cumbersome then just installing 10.8 and doing an upgrade to 10.9.
Regardless of which way you are choosing for installing OS X 10.9 at the end it runs nice and smooth inside a VM without messing up your production machine.
